China's First Sodium Nickel Battery Project Was Put Into Production in Changxing, Zhejiang Province

Recently, the country's first sodium nickel battery project in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province officially put into production. The project is produced by Zhejiang AMPower Co., LTD., a subsidiary of Chilwee Group. It is reported that only two companies in the world produce sodium nickel (commonly known as sodium salt) batteries, Chilwee Group is the only one in China.

Hangzhou, April 19 (Xinhua Finance) (Zhang Qiong Ding Qingqing) Recently, the country's first sodium nickel battery project in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province officially put into production. The project is produced by Zhejiang AMPower Co., LTD., a subsidiary of Chilwee Group. It is reported that only two companies in the world produce sodium nickel (commonly known as sodium salt) batteries, Chilwee Group is the only one in China.

The country's first sodium salt battery project put into production site

Sodium salt battery is a new type of battery with high safety, long life, strong temperature resistance, low maintenance cost, good economy and wide range of applications. After 11 years of development by General Electric, the technology made a commercial breakthrough in 2012. It has been applied in many fields, such as communication, energy storage and vehicle. In 25 countries around the world, it has built many projects, such as optical storage, wind storage, peak management and communication base station.

It is understood that in January 2017, Chilwee Group signed a cooperation agreement with the world's top 500 -- General Electric Company of the United States Durathon sodium salt battery project, and jointly established Zhejiang AMPower Co., LTD., to carry out the production, research and development and sales of sodium salt batteries. With a total investment of $105 million, the project has a planned total capacity of 500MWh, and the first phase of 50MWh capacity has already been built and put into operation.

"Today's production of AMPower sodium salt battery, is an important part of the emerging plate of Chilwee." Chilwee Group chairman Zhou Mingming introduced, as one of the domestic battery leading enterprises, Chilwee Group early layout of the emerging plate, more than 60% of the research and development funds into sodium salt battery, hydrogen energy battery and other new battery frontier technology field.

Brendan Harkus, from South Africa, became the first customer to order Durathon sodium salt batteries since the US company General Electric started production. He thinks the Durathon battery is an incredible piece of battery technology. There are two major manufacturers of sodium-salt battery technology, he says, but the Durathon battery is by far the best of its kind, and his confidence is based on more than five years of product application data.

Accroding to the introduction, compared to lithium ion batteries and lead acid batteries, sodium nickel batteries have many advantages, such as safety and reliability, long cycle life, high energy density and environmental friendly. It is a new energy storage technology used for renewable energy grid-connection, distributed power generation, and micro-grid. With the official operation of the Changxing Sodium salt project, Chilwee Group and GE will combine their industrial and technological advantages to jointly expand the application of sodium salt batteries on a larger scale and more widely.
