China's First Sodium Salt Battery Officially Put Into Operation

On April 17, Zhejiang AMPower Co., Ltd. was held in Changxing, Zhejiang province, marking the country's first sodium nickel (hereinafter called: sodium salt) battery project officially put into operation. It is reported that Zhejiang AMPower Co., Ltd. is jointly built by Chilwee Group and General Electric Power of the United States. Today, there are only two enterprises in the world to produce sodium salt batteries, and only AMPower in China. The total investment of the project is 105 million dollars, with a planned total capacity of 500MWh, and the first phase of 50MWh capacity has been built and put into production.

The participants of the production ceremony were mainly Shi Yiting, Deputy Secretary of Changxing County Party Committee and county governor, He Zhiqiang, member of the Standing Committee of County Party Committee and deputy county governor, Wang Weixin, member of the Standing Committee of County Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Changxing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Zhou Mingming, Chairman of Chilwee Group, Zhou Longrui, Vice chairman of Chilwee Group, Yang Yunfei, More than 100 people attended the ceremony, including Mr.patrick patnode, President of GE Patent Licensing, government department leaders, scientific research institutes, industry associations, strategic partners, important suppliers, financial institutions, news media and employees.

At the ceremony, Zhang Hongtao, executive deputy general manager of AMPower, introduced the research and development of the project. patnode, President of General Electric Patent Licensing Department, Wen Zhaoyin, researcher of Shanghai Institute of Silicon Acid Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Weixin, member of the Standing Committee of Changxing County Party Committee, Party Secretary of Changxing Economic and Technological Development Zone, delivered speeches to express their congratulations and expectations. Changxing County deputy Party secretary, county governor Shi Yiting announced production.

Zhou Mingming, chairman of Chilwee Group, made a speech at the ceremony and put forward ardent hope for the future development of Anli Energy. He pointed out that today's production ceremony is the first step of a long march. He said Zhejiang AMPower Co., Ltd. is an important part of the group's emerging sector. In 2019, the capacity and benefits of emerging sectors will begin to be released. In this regard, the county magistrate of Changxing County, the leaders of Changxing Economic and Technological Development Zone and the representatives of experts from various industries also showed a high degree of concern and expectation.

In the speech of industry experts also said that among many energy storage technologies, electrochemical energy storage has great potential. Compared with lithium ion battery and lead-acid battery, sodium salt battery has more safety and reliability, long cycle life, high specific energy, environmental friendly and other characteristics. It is considered as a new energy storage technology suitable for new energy grid connection, distributed power generation and micro grid.

Brendan Harkus, from South Africa, is the first customer to order Durathon batteries since GE started production. He believes Durathon batteries are an incredible battery technology and that the future of energy storage lies in sodium salt technology, especially in the telecommunications and rail industries he works in. He says there are two major manufacturers of sodium-salt batteries, but the Durathon battery is by far the best of its kind, and his confidence is based on more than five years of product application data. He believes that Enpower's sodium-salt battery project will be very successful.
